Jets and ECAC Transforming Women's Flag Football
The Betty Wold Johnson Foundation, in partnership with the New York Jets and the ECAC, is helping usher in a transformative new era for women’s collegiate athletics through the creation and expansion of women’s flag football opportunities across the Northeast.
This initiative represents more than the launch of a conference. It is the foundation of a movement designed to provide young women with greater access to higher education, athletic competition, leadership development, and life-changing opportunities through sport.
With the support of the Betty Wold Johnson Foundation and the New York Jets, ECAC institutions are building a competitive platform that will allow student-athletes to compete at a high level while helping colleges and universities grow one of the fastest-rising sports in the country.
“The Jets foundation is certainly one of the leaders of the movement of female flag football,” said Michael Perrota, head coach of the Mercy University Women’s Flag team. “They are leading the way and we are glad to follow.”
Women’s flag football has rapidly emerged as a powerful vehicle for empowerment, inclusion, and opportunity. The ECAC’s commitment signals a major step forward in legitimizing and expanding the sport at the collegiate level, creating new pathways for athletes who aspire to continue competing beyond high school.
The collaboration between the Betty Wold Johnson Foundation, the New York Jets, and the ECAC demonstrates a shared belief in the future of women’s sports and the importance of investing in programs that positively impact students, campuses, and communities.
As participation in girls’ and women’s flag football continues to surge nationwide, this partnership places the ECAC at the forefront of one of the most exciting developments in modern athletics
